Pro Finlandia -mitalin 2020 saanut ja Oulun musiikkijuhlien taiteellisessa johdossa juuri aloittanut Jukka Perko ottaa mittaa nuoruuden idolistaan. Saksofonisti Charlie "Bird" Parker (1920-1955) on jazzin historian suurimpia vaikuttajia. Virtuoosimaisena saksofonistina ja nerokkaana improvisoijana hän johti musiikillista vallankumousta 1940-luvun Amerikassa. Juuri Parkeria kuunnellen ja matkien teini-ikäinen Jukka Perko omaksui tämän tyylin niin tarkasti, että vuonna 1987 hänelle aukesivat ovet Parkerin aikalaisen ja lähimmän työtoverin Dizzy Gillespien orkesteriin. Perkon häikäisevää soittoa verrattiin nuoreen Parkeriin ja hän saikin lempinimen "Little Bird".
TTT-klubin konsertissa Perkon pitkään hioutunut näkemys jazzin traditiosta saa sekä tukea että vastavoimaa nuoremman sukupolven innosta ja energiasta. Nuorine muusikkoystävineen Perko lähestyy Parkerin sävelmiä raikkaasti takavasemmalta eli 1930–40 lukujen taitteesta, swingin suunnasta. Näin Parkerin esikuvan, Count Basien orkesterin saksofonistin Lester Youngin henki on vahvasti läsnä. Luvassa on siis svengaava kohtaaminen!
